Mobile phone advertising is quickly becoming a key component in large business marketing campaigns. Since billions of people use cell phones every day, and over 12 billion text messages are sent every month in the US, the reasons for are clear.

Harder to understand is how mobile phone advertising can benefit the smaller, more local business owner, when its reach is so vast. The answer lies in the other unique feature of mobile phone advertising, the ability to target customers to very specific demographics.

Let’s say you run an ice cream shop. How about sending via sms advertising coupons for a free cone on each of your customer’s kid’s birthday?

This form of personal contact is perfect for any type of service business. If you run a massage parlor or day spa, consider sending discounts or coupons to your customers on their anniversaries, birthdays or other special occasions.

The possibilities are really endless for staying in touch with your customers when you start to think about using mobile phone advertising as a high tech form of personal contact.

Mobile phone advertising can also become a form of viral marketing by offering in your text message that the offer is good for any other friend or family member that your customer forwards the text message to. A modern version of “I told two friends…and they told two friends…,” the possibilities for your business abound.

Whether you run a storefront or service business, viral mobile phone advertising is a great way to fill in slow gaps throughout your week. Suppose you run a cleaning service and your Tuesdays are typically slow.

Consider sending a text message advertisement offering a discount on a whole house cleaning to anyone who responds within a certain period. Try to make it fun and appealing for your customers to pass on to friends and family. You might find yourself overbooked for next Tuesday!

A small bit of creativity together with a commitment to offering a personal touch through mobile phone advertising will really set you above your competition in your customer’s minds.

Make sure to get your free mobile advertising trial (and mention the promo code “mobilenow” and receive double the credits during your free trial period).

Even as little as two years ago the very idea of Text message marketing was not on the radar of most businesses. Marketing plans were focused on the traditional mediums of print, radio and if you had a big enough budget, advertising on television. However there has been a change in the way business marketing is done and the areas these marketers are now focusing on.

However technology is creeping into these markets and changing the way of doing business.

The growth of new mediums of Bebo, Facebook, Myspace and countless others have proven to organisations that internet marketing can play its part. Many companies are building these media into their general marketing strategies. They are writing on blank sheets as there is little history in this area and the rules are still evolving.

The report also suggests the text channel is seen as untainted by spammers and general junk mail. This is in direct contrast to the more traditional electronic medium of the email system. Because of the cleanness of the text market almost all text messages are opened. The same can not be said for the equivalent email market.

With these changes and growth marketing professionals are brainstorming to see how they can utilise these new opportunities. Older methods will continue to be used but these new developments will be used alongside, ideally in an integrated manner.

Innovation is happening constantly and new methods are being offered and adopted. A trial is currently underway in New Zealand for store vouchers to be sent to new customers who sign up to mailing lists via their mobile phone. The text message is then taken into the store and the discount applied to the purchase made. It is not yet clear if this attempt will be successful. While it is cheap to do, consumer reaction is still being monitored. The evolution of mobile phone technology also means what can be done on a mobile phone is ever expanding.

Many companies use text messaging currently to provide real time information to consumers. Texting them their train will be five minutes late is a valuable practical and accepted usage. Airlines have even started to introduce the use of boarding passes sent to mobile phones and read on scanners as the passenger passes through.

One important factor for the marketing professional is the knowledge most people keep their phones close to them at most times and therefore are ready to be marketed to at the appropriate time. The evolution of text message marketing may be the next natural step, but its usage and acceptance are not yet guaranteed.

Promoted tweets are Twitter’s latest advertising tactic. Basically, big BIG advertisers pay what are probably big BIG bucks to have commercial tweets appear at the top of a stream of tweets. Now, there is talk about monopolizing such and banning all other advertising (see this article in the LA Times )

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, who wants to see anyone limit the great American dream from any one else, even if it’s Twitter. On the other hand, why not, wouldn’t we all love to be Twitter and call the shots?

I guess ultimately, the little, or even the middle guy wouldn’t get far with advertising on twitter anyway. The concept of text advertising is more economical and better suited using a mobile phone advertising campaign aimed at the small to midsized company. Tweets are seen only by Twitter participants, and it is difficult to target it so your ads are seen by just the right people. So you end up spending big bucks and the benefit is not yet proven.

Mobile phone advertising campaigns are much more easily targeted to exactly who you want to receive the ads (after all they opt in saying they want to hear from you). And, the cost of mobile phone advertising is low as you build your ad list. Can be as low as $10/month.

Yeah, I suppose a promoted tweet would be very effective if your reach is global, such as McDonald’s or Starbucks. For the little guys, probably okay to pass on that one anyway.

Word of mouth has always been the most popular and effective form of advertising around. Small business marketing 101 states that if a friend tells a friend, the chances of making the sale are much greater than if someone sees an advertisement somewhere.

Today, friends talk to friends over their cell phones even more than they do in person. For this reason, mobile phone advertising is the logical next evolution to word-of-mouth marketing.

As with any new form of advertising, many small business owners struggle to see the benefit of how it can work for their particular business. But when you approach mobile phone advertising from the angle that it is simply another form of word-of-mouth advertising, the possibilities become endless.

Here are some of the bigger benefits of mobile phone advertising to your small business:

1.	Huge Reach. You only have to walk down the street to see people either talking or texting on their mobile phones. In the US alone, there are nearly 12 billion text messages a month sent back and forth between cell phone users. Many people carrying a mobile phone have it on and nearby 100% of the time. The benefit to you is that you have nearly instant access to a wide range of your customers and their friends any time you want it.

2. Fresh, innovative market. Very few businesses are using mobile phone advertising as part of their marketing strategy today. This means that you will be perceived as cutting edge when compared to your competition.

3. Viral market. Those folks that text message on a regular basis are used to forwarding information that catches their attention to all their friends. If you can create a marketing campaign designed around word of mouth advertising strategies, the possibilities of your message reaching hundreds or thousands more than your original distribution list are huge.

Top it all off with the fact that mobile phone advertising can be very affordable to small business owners, because plans can typically start out small (as little as $10/month) and grow as your needs increase.

Make sure to get your free mobile advertising trial (and mention the promo code “mobilenow” and receive double the credits during your free trial period).

You may or may not be aware of the explosion in mobile phone texting, but worldwide over 70% of cell phone users, or more than 2 BILLION people, have and use this capability. The term SMS, or short message service, is used to describe the standard message format of up to 160 characters used by all cell phone providers. This SMS standard makes cell phone marketing a lot easier and is feeding an explosion in this type of marketing.

There were typical problems in the beginning when many marketers sent unwanted information just like they did when email was new. But now laws have been passed to stop the practice and all mobile service providers have adopted standard guidelines. Once this happened, cell phone or mobile marketing became a legitimate advertising channel.

Something that has made mobile phone advertising even more popular is the use of short codes. These short codes are unique telephone numbers which are much shorter than normal telephone numbers, usually just four or five numbers. They are used to address responses to SMS messages. This has created a brand new approach to potential clients. In fact, many brands around the world are starting to look at short codes they have often used as, in effect, mobile equivalents of web domain names.

Short codes are usually numbers assigned to mobile operators of a particular location, which they use for brand campaigning and other purposes. Some short codes are the same for all mobile providers so these are called common short codes, abbreviated CSC.

The standards adopted by the Mobile Marketing Association require that customers have to opt-in, like they do with email, to receive additional information. The customer can opt out at any time by texting the word STOP to the short code. Following these standards is a requirement for all mobile marketers in the USA.

The newest mobile marketing techniques use the multi-media message service or MMS which allows the transmission of short promotional videos and animations. Nearly all new phones produced with a color screen are capable of sending and receiving MMS messages.

Another new development is advertising on web pages specifically meant for access by cell phones. The Mobile Marketing Association has provided guidelines for the format of ads and presentations which has led to the development of advertising networks focused on cell phone marketing. These networks can assist the advertiser in ad development as well as campaigns to solicit web page views by cell phone users.

Some cell phone companies also offer SMS services to specific geographic areas. The provider uses the GPS chip present in most new phones to locate subscribers and can also access the users of cell towers in specific areas. This provides the mobile marketer with the opportunity to do local advertising at a lower cost.

The number of cell phone users should only increase each year and mobile phone marketing will become more and more accepted as a necessary component of any advertising campaign. If you are not currently taking advantage of this exiting new technology, you should start to think about ways that your company can take advantage of cell phone marketing. One thing you can be sure of. If you don’t take advantage of it your competitors will.

After specializing in websites on exercise, healthy eating and internet for over a year, Garth Mcgarvery has invesigated a new topic and created www.eileenfishersweaters.com, a site that evaluates and lists the best Eileen Fisher Sweaters.

At one point, advertising on the Internet was considered new and adventurous. Now, nearly every business has an Internet presence, if only a website. Banner advertising, pay per click marketing, and social network marketing are becoming norms for most business owners rather than new territory.

Most experts are predicting the next big wave in advertising for small businesses and large alike is in mobile phone advertising. No wonder, when the estimated number of cell phone users worldwide is 4.5 billion, compared to just 1.5 billion Internet users.

Even though industry leaders are convinced that mobile phone advertising will be huge, the speed to market, even for large advertisers has been slower than you would expect. But not surprisingly, the results are amazing for those willing to get their big toes wet and try mobile phone advertising. Fast food chain Chipotle had millions sign up via text message to receive mobile coupons in only a few short weeks, nearly all through word of mouth.

Smaller businesses can stand ahead of their competition by taking advantage of mobile phone advertising campaigns as well. Because most are opt-in in nature, mobile phone advertising is actually an integral part of the overall campaign rather than a stand-alone venture. What this means is that mobile phone advertising is a great way to offer an additional service to your customers, such as discounts delivered to their phone, that your competitors are not.

Conversion rates for mobile phone advertising has been found to be very high, as well. The rate of return if you were to mail out coupons to your customers might be about 1%, compared to 30-40% you could realize via mobile phone advertising.

The cost to small businesses is very low to start as well. Because mobile phone advertising is opt-in, a business owner can start with an inexpensive plan and only increase it as campaigns become more effective.

Make sure to get your free mobile advertising trial (and mention the promo code “mobilenow” and receive double the credits during your free trial period).

Samsung SGH-D500 – There is nothing more proud for a cell phone manufacturer than its cell phone winning a GSM Association Award for the Best Mobile Handset. SGH-D500 is one of those cell phones which Samsung is proud to manufacture. The slider D500 is a gem piece. With classic charcoal black color, the cell phone is build with fine quality material. 93.5×45.7×23.5mm being the size of D500, the cell phone still is only 99grams and feels good in palms.

Samsung SGH T809 – Reviewing all the cell phones with respect to their design, we would see that almost every famous cell phone has to be very slim. Motorola Razr V3 got popularity just because of this. Famous manufacturers have introduced their own ‘Razr’ to complete with Motorola but so far so good, nothing is able to beat Motorola Razr. Here we are about to review Samsung SGH-T809, a slim cell phone rival of Razr. The cell phone measures 3.9×2x0.6 inches. And weight a little above 3.5 ounces. The cell phone is a bit heavier than its rival but the slider cell phone appears good in black color. The slider mechanism works fine as it needs only a finger to slide up or down. The 4 way navigational key is responsive most of the time along side the two soft keys.

Nokia 3220 – The pretty cool looking cell phone is measured 4.11×1.74×0.74 inches and weighs just a little over 3 ounces. The weight is something quiet rare as compared to other handsets by Nokia. The cell phone fits well in jeans and any other type of pocket. With Nokia logo on something, don’t worry about anything crashing. The cell phone is compact the keys are adjacent and engineered well. So does the five way scroll pad. However it seems to be a bit smaller than usual. One can change skins of the cell phone. Original from Nokia are available for this particular handset so one can show off a new cell phone every day.

Samsung SCH-A990 – Previously, we had cell phones with only two features, call making and text messaging. Later on we got cell phones with some minimum of software applications, games etc. Nowadays we got cell phone hard ware became so much complex, it includes everything from camera to mp3 playing and GPS and FM capabilities. Samsung became the first cell phone manufacturer to ever introduce a 3.2 mega pixel camera in a cell phone SCH-A990. The smart little flip open has size measure of At 3.8 by 1.8 by 0.8 inches and weight around 4 and a half ounces. The flip can be twisted up to 180 degrees clock wise. The left spine contains music control buttons, headset port and SD expansion slot.

Palm Treo 700w – Palm Treo w series was introduced with an intention to create an all in one Personal digital assistant which can support various general purpose and multimedia applications. The series was started with Palm Treo 700w. Palm Treo physical measurements came out good enough to declare it a sleek device in Personal digital assistant category. 4.4 by 2.3 by 0.9 inches and weight slightly lower than 6 and a half ounces, gives PDA a solid construction and just perfect for business and corporate use. Charcoal black and sliver combination suits Palm Treo very well.

Nokia N93 – The famous N series by Nokia is continuously climbing up in cell phone markets. The series has numerous pros and cons but never the less; it is coming up with cell phones that Nokia itself call as multimedia computers. N 93, one of the most famous of all N series cell phone finally arrived with bundle of features. The cell phone is one hell of a multimedia device bringing each and every technology feature in one box.

Russell Coutier is an avid tech freak; specifically in the mobile industry. As common as cell phones are nowadays, so are spam and prank callers. Fight back with a reverse cell phone number lookup service and find out who’s calling.

In 1960 AT&T was awarded the first license to launch a telecommunications satellite and over the ensuing years the satellite telecommunications industry has experienced tremendous growth.

Today hand held & portable satellite phones are common place and are used across every business sector but their markets have been impacted by the growth of the cellular industry.

Most cellular networks around the world have adopted the GSM standard which has allowed users to roam around the world using the same handset and service. Because cellular networks still rely on a land based network of towers, coverage is still problematic in many locations.

Satellite systems overcome these limitations by not having a dependence on land based networks. Two primary satellite telecommunication systems exist, one being Geostationary (GEO) and the other being Low Earth Orbit (LEO). GEO systems orbit around the equator at altitudes of 35,000 km while LEO systems orbit in varying paths (primarily circular) at altitudes of 780 km. GEO systems have coverage over most of the globe minus the poles while LEO systems usually provide global coverage.

Four main competitors exist in the hand held & portable satellite market. Iridium LLC, Thuraya, Globalstar and Inmarsat.

In 1998 Iridium became the first global provider of hand held satellite phones. With the launching of a constellation of 66 LEO satellites, they provide truly global coverage. Iridium premier product is the Iridium 9555 handset.

The first competitor in the LEO market was Globalstar who launched commercial service in 2000. Their constellation of 48 satellites was dealt a blow in 2007 when problems arose with their voice communications.

Thuraya service was launched in 2001 and has three satellites in geostationary orbit. The Thuraya system is a regional provider offering coverage over Europe. The Middle East and parts of Africa.

Inmarsat was founded in 1972 and started life primarily as a provider of satellite services to the Maritime industry. While they entered the land mobile satellite business when they launched BGAN service in 2005, Inmarsat was not involved in the handheld satellite phone market.

As of June, 2010 this is about to change.

Inmarsat has listened to the market and incorporated features users have been asking for such as Bluetooth and built in GPS. They are also bringing the entry price down below $700.00 which should open the market up to a whole new segment of users.

The IsatPhone Pro will be a great fit in the hand held satellite phone segment and should do very well against the existing competition.
